Through spring, summer and fall months especially on weekends plenty of Athens locals are soaring into the island with their private speed boats and private yachts.

Hydra's modest port village is a breathtaking sight. It's tiny harbor is ringed with cafes, places to eat and shops, and followed by a village of stone houses and villas, little squares that rise up the hills like an amphitheater.

This easy accessibility makes ease of the experience -- no bus times to keep up with, no vast city to learn on a map, simply a simple walk out of your resort to wherever you need to be.

This idyllic island will talk to all of your romantic senses. It will lull you in with the straightforward life and you won't want to shift from your ringside seat to the bordering natural beauty.

Hydra is not a real beach island destination. Most of its beaches are small and consist of stones or they may be just rocks were you can go in the water. One of the few beaches with sand and in all likelihood your best option is the Mandraki beach just east of Hydra Town.

Hydra Town is the only settlement on the island; you can find most of the action is centred around the waterfront area. In summer time caiques ferry tourists to the islands seaside areas also water taxis will take and collect you, to numerous places on the coast, including Bisti and Agios Nikoloas.
